It was a true delight to join brothers and sisters in Christ at the dedication of St. Peter’s Catholic Church over the weekend. This moment held a deep personal meaning for me, as St. Peter’s is not just any parish—it is my childhood parish, a place where my faith journey was first nurtured and where many of my earliest encounters with God’s love took root.

The dedication ceremony was a powerful reminder of God’s faithfulness. In the rich tradition of the Catholic Church, the activity of dedication was carried out with solemn reverence—blessing the altar, and anointing the walls with holy chrism. It was a sight and experience that stirred the soul, symbolizing that this sacred space has now been set apart for generations of worshippers to encounter God.

One of the most uplifting moments was listening to the homily of Bishop Anthony Ewherido, whose words carried both wisdom and encouragement. Hearing his voice again after so many years was not just nostalgic but deeply enriching, as he called us to renew our faith, strengthen our unity, and embrace our mission as witnesses of Christ in our communities.

Beyond the liturgy, the atmosphere was filled with joy, unity, and thanksgiving. Parishioners, old friends, and families came together, dressed in vibrant attire that reflected the celebratory spirit of the day. The choir lifted our hearts with songs of praise, while the cultural expressions of gratitude—smiles, embraces, and the sharing of meals—reminded me once again of the beauty of our Nigerian Catholic identity: faith rooted in tradition, yet alive with community and culture.

For me, this dedication was not only the blessing of a new worship space but also a homecoming, a rekindling of memories, and a renewal of faith. Truly, St. Peter’s now stands as a testimony of God’s enduring presence among His people, and I am grateful to have witnessed this historic moment.
